Where do you go when you are sick? You go to the store to pick up medicine or you go to doctor hoping that (s)he will write a prescription for medicine that will heal whatever illness you are suffering from. Just as you go to the doctor to heal your body, you go to God, the Great Physician, when your soul is wounded and hurting emotionally. The word of God brings healing to your mind and soul.
Getting to Know God and Love His Word

Spend time reading and studying the word of God to get to know him. Ask God to speak to specific areas where your soul feels wounded. Maybe you have emotional wounds that stem from strained, toxic or failed relationships. Wounds that stem from loss and grief, disappointment, betrayal, rejection, or abuse in any form. This is the time for you to seek God’s comfort and healing through His word. As you begin to understand and know who God is, you start to trust God and lean on his understanding. You stop worrying and you let go of the frustration. He uses your challenges to transform you to be more like Christ. You learn what it means to surrender to God’s will for your life.
How do I Begin to Read and Study the Bible?
If you do an internet search for scripture based on emotional wounds, you will find several scriptures to read and study. As you spend time with God getting to know him and open your Bible, ask God how you should handle a situation in a way that honors God? How do you honestly forgive this person? How can you establish boundaries and extend God’s love to this person? Ask God, through the power of the Holy Spirit in you, to teach you and guide you in the words you speak and actions you take. Study the scriptures you found and listen to what God says to you through His word so that you lean into the Holy Spirit as you respond to this person in a manner that honors God.
Taking Steps to Read God’s Word
My son, give attention to my words; Incline your ear to my sayings. Do not let them depart from your eyes; keep them in the midst of your heart; For they are life to those who find them, and health to all their flesh.
Proverbs 4:20-22 (NKJV)
If you find it difficult to study the Bible, it might help to join a Bible study group online or at church. Getting started is the first step in the right direction. Invest in books by Christian authors and read about topics where your soul is emotionally wounded and seek peace of mind. Your soul yearns for healing and God’s word will bring healing to your soul and mind. Just as you seek healing when your body is sick, seek healing when your soul is wounded. Learn how to listen to God’s voice and enjoy reading God’s word as you apply what He instructs you to do in any given situation.
Apply What God’s Word Says to Bring Healing to Your Soul
Therefore lay aside all filthiness and overflow of wickedness, and receive with meekness the implanted word, which is able to save your souls. But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man observing his natural face in a mirror; for he observes himself, goes away, and immediately forgets what kind of man he was.
James 1:21-24 (NKJV)
Reading the Bible is how we learn to apply God’s word to our lives. Building our knowledge of God, but never listening to God’s voice and applying His truth will not bring the healing that your soul needs and desires. Your soul desires to have healthy relationships built on trust: therefore, confidently ask God to go before you as you listen to Him and do what He instructs you to do. God’s love will heal and bind your wounds.
Your friend in Christ,
